TS CALS

S

Steve Monson

I am running W2K Advanced Server. I am using Terminal
Services for client machines to connect to the Metaframe
Server running on the same box. We have purchased 20
TSCALS. We have several old hosts that are no longer on
the LAN but still hold a permanent license. How can I
reclaim these licenses for re-issue?

Question 2:
Does Terminal Service issue a TS CAL to a machine or a
user? Or to the combination of both? I assume it locks it
into an IP Address. If another user uses the same machine
(Night Shift)is another TS CAL issued for that
user/machine combo?

Thanks.

If you've installed SP3 on the TS and the LS, the CALs will come back on
their own.

If not, install SP3, then call the Clearinghouse to get the CALs back. See
the TS FAQ for more information.

The CAL is issued to the machine. Multiple people can use the machine with
the same CAL. (Win2003 introduces Per User licensing as well, if you'd like
to reverse that.)

Will SP3 put an expiration date on the cals? If so, is
that a problem with 95/98 clients? Will they hold the cal
information, or will they clear too?

Applying SP3 doesn't change anything for your existing TS CALs, it
only makes sure that the new (re-issued) TS CALs that you get from
the Clearinghouse will have an expiration date, so that you avoid
this problem with removed clients in the future.

W9x clients have no problem with expiration dates. If a client
gets a TS CAL with an expiration date, it will automatically try
to refresh the TS CAL within the last week before expiration.
