Trying to use windows update

D

Dave

I bought this computer, (a laptop). I was very careful tomake sure to not
take away any administrative rights as I setup the first account. However,
every time I use windows update and try to install an update, I get this:

To install updates from this website, you must be logged on as an
administrator or a member of the Administrators group on your computer. If
you use Windows XP, you can see if you are an administrator by going to User
Accounts in Control Panel.

Note: If your computer is connected to a network, network policy settings
might also prevent you using this website. Contact your system administrator
for help with updates.

I am using my administrator account, and I'm NOT going to pay somebody to
fix this problem. Because if it doesn't get fixed. I'm going to switch to
Mac. This has been going on since I bought the thing more then a year ago.
From what I've researched it has something to do with that irritating stop
and ask for permission useless security thing.

So, I need some ideas.

Hi Dave,

First, this is a peer support group, assistance comes from other users like
yourself. While the occasional Microsoft personnel show up here, they do so
on their own time and in no official capacity. Threats of moving to another
product or boycotting will likely garner you nothing more than responses of
"go ahead".

Second, why would you wait a whole year to address it? Problems not
addressed do not go away, they just get more complicated. Here are two
possible paths to problem resolution for you:

1) Free Windows Update support from a professional, click on "contacts" to
begin:

2) Free peer support for Windows Updates, a group similar to this that
specializes in these issues:

If you want to buy a Mac, go for it. I don't know why you have put up with
this issue for a year but its your computer. If you want to solve the issue
then stop making empty threats and ask a specific question somebody can
answer. None of us work for MS but somebody will try to help. I also own a
MacBook Pro and things don't really work any better dealing with Apple
products, I assure you.
