Trying to use Gmail through Windows Mail

I am having problems getting my Gmail to go through Windows Mail. I went
through all the steps and entered the incoming and outgoing pop server names,
etc and it still brings up the error message when I try to send out e-mail
from Windows Mail. Any advice would be greatly appreciated!

I got it to work, KIND OF. I can SEE all of my Gmail messages in the Windows
Mail window, and a girlfriend of mine sent me a test e-mail and it worked, I
could receive it. But I still can't reply. Why?

What is the exact, complete error message?

"The message could not be sent. The authentication setting might not be
correct for your outgoing e-mail [SMTP] server. For help solving this
problem, go to Help, search for "Troubleshoot Windows Mail", and read the
"I'm having problems sending e-mail" section. If you need help determining
the proper server settings, please contact your e-mail service provider.

The rejected e-mail address was '(e-mail address removed)'. Subject 'hi',
Account: 'Gmail', Server: 'smtp.gmail.com', Protocol: SMTP, Server Response:
'530 5.5.1 Authentication Required y78sm13157142pyg', Port: 465, Secure(SSL):
Yes, Server Error: 530, Error Number: 0x800CCC78"

Also - my Gmail updates in Windows Mail often! So if I've deleted a message
from both Gmail and Windows Vista (the same message), it comes back! Can I
prevent that too?

These settings worked for me to get my Gmail

Servers screen

Incoming(pop3) = pop.gmail.com
Outgoing(smtp) = smtp.gmail.com

Make sure "my server requires authentication" is checked.

Advanced screen

Outgoing(smtp) = port = 465
Incoming(pop3) = port = 995

check both boxes "This server requires a secure connection (SSL)

morning and i'm still having issues.

I'll check again to make sure it's set correctly. Thank you though!!!

you have to fill in twice your username and password, so after you click my
server requires a secure connection, you have to click on settings and fill
it in again.
now is should work.

Have you gone to the Gmail site and actually configured your
account for POP3/SMTP access? The default is web mail access only.
