trying to update

I have just added a new (old) computer to my home I am trying to update the
windows xp sp2 and the update page keeps coming up "cannot find server" I
tried using diff. web browser it is just not working any ideas?

do other websites work ok?? have you tried going directly to the
windows update website, or have you tried to click update windows from
the control panel?

THere are several methods of getting to the windows update server.
Sometimes one of the methods has an issue. Like wrong shortcut.



1) By direct link in IE6 (or 7 beta)
http://windowsupdate.microsoft.com/

It redirects to the right page.

2) By selecting tools->Windows Update in internet explorer.

3) By selecting "windows update" on the start menu.


PS you NEED IE to be installed. Using another browser does'nt work.
