Trying to run regedit

I was going to go into regedit to verify a key setting and when I try to run regedit I get the following popup:

Registry Editor has encountered a problem and needs to close.
We are sorry for the inconvenience.
Please tell Microsoft about this problem....

I've got anti-virus software (up to date) with clean scan in windows and in safe mode from command line. I've ran spybot and adaware.

Please help.
