Trying to reinstall IE6

Since I have been experiencing problems with IE6, I tried re-installing it
with the "ie6setup.exe" file, but got the error message that says I already
have a copy on my machine and it won't go any further.

I read where you could change a setting in the Registry to make it think
that it was never installed, so I did that (by setting the Installed
Components Key from 1 to 0). I then tried the install again, but got the
same message.

How can you get the setup file to just go ahead and do the re-install
anyway?

What operating system?
(There are few that will allow a reinstall of IE)

It may be better to try a repair (depending on the o/s) or supply
details of your problems.

I have a question that might be useful for this if the assumption turns out
to be correct (I really don't know if it is).

What if you uninstall IE6 via Add/Remove Windows Components. And then use a
registry cleaning utility, such as CCleaner. Would that find and remove IE
related registry items now that the associated Windows components have been
removed? And, if so, then you might be able to do a reinstall.

What problems? If they're being caused by hijackware, reinstalling IE won't
help: Hijackware infects Windows, not the browser.

When all else fails, HijackThis v1.99.1
(http://aumha.org/downloads/hijackthis.zip) is the preferred tool to use.
It will help you to both identify and remove any hijackware/spyware. **Post

If the procedures look too complex - and there is no shame in admitting this
isn't your cup of tea - take the machine to a local, reputable and
independent (i.e., not BigBoxStoreUSA) computer repair shop.
