Trying to pull in another e-mail account

My spouse passed away & rather than go to their computer I would like to be
able to check their e-mail from my computer. When I set it up (exactly as my
account is set up) on my computer I get An account already exists with this
name, please enter a unique friendly name. I know their password. Is there
anything I may have over looked?

Go to tools>accounts>select the account that you just set
up>properties>general tab.

You need to change the name of the account in the Top Box on that tab, you
can enter anything you like there, so long as it is not the same as any of
your existing accounts, (as it is now, that is what the error is telling
you).

Thanks. Well, it is OK, but none of his e-mails in his in-box imports in to
my e-mail (& I have even set up a separate folder for that in case it was
needed). Is there another step?

You can't readily access the Inbox on another computer (unless you use
Remote Desktop or similar).
You can copy the downloaded messages from the other computer by exporting
them, copying them to a CD/DVD (or via network), and then importing them
into your computer.

On the other computer:
Open Windows Mail
File - Export - Messages - Microsoft Windows Mail
select a blank temporary folder, and save the files.

Copy the files to CD/DVD

On your computer:
Copy the files from the CD/DVD to a temporary folder on your computer
Open Windows Mail
File - Import - Messages - Microsoft Windows Mail
select the temporary folder, and import the files.

Does this mean I have to do this every day when new e-mails come in? If I
deleted the other computer's e-mail & set up the account like I have it now
in my computer would I get those e-mails? Surely there's a way, I would
think. Or do I need to have someone like the Geek Squad come out & do it?
Hate to pay the price they charge though (HA).

No, you should only have to do it one time.

But if you don't wish to receive email on the other computer, remove the
accounts from it.

If you wish to receive the accounts which were accessed on the other
computer, simply add them to yours. I thought you had already done that.

If you wish to receive the emails on both computers, configure both to leave
the messages on the server after downloading (for POP3 accounts only).

I finally called my ISP from work. They said I had everything correct (I had
written down what I did). They said everything was out of his e-mail in-box
so I had to have it, which of course I didn't. So they shut down my spouse's
computer & brought it back up. When I got home sure enough all those e-mails
were in my in-box. They were sitting out in cyberspace somewhere (HA).
