My problem is when I am logged into remote desktop I cannot use my home
computer to print of off. It does not show on the printer list. I have
tried adding it but all it does is show the printers connected to the host
computer none of mine. Both systems are using xp pro. I have talked to the
ip guy at the office. he says everything on there end is set up so I can use
my own printers. He thinks I have something set up wrong in windows. any
suggestions would be helpfull.

When setting up Remote Desktop, it asks if you want to have access to local
printers on the machine you're connecting to remotely. Did you check the box
beside "printers"?

If you mean on the sign in window yes. I went to the local access tab and
have disk drives and printers checked. The IT guy at the office also said
they are set up so I should be able to use my own home printer when I am at
home working remotely.

Remote Desktop supports printing on simple printers but not
on complex ones, e.g. "DOT4" printers. You can easily test
your Remote Desktop setup like so:
1. Install the driver for an HP LJ 4L printer on your laptop.
There is no need to physically connect such a printer.
2. Start an RDP session.
3. Check whether the 4L printer is visible in the RDP session.
If it is then the RDP session is configured correctly but it
does not support your actual printer.
