dell 8100 crashed, took it to Frys electronic , they wiped
windows me and all data off the hard drive and reloaded
win me . I bought win xp and had a friend load xp over
me ,also loaded norton works and zone alarm firewall. all
worked great for abought 3 days . i went to start up the
computor to get online after my daughter was online
earlier that day and the dell logo came up and loaded just
fine then the win xp logo came up and instead of the
normal sequence of series of acumilitve green dots in the
loading bar culmanating with the program starting , there
was a group of 3 green dots that raced across the loading
bar for abought 15 seconds then a blue screen poped up for
about 1/2 second with a error message I could not read and
the tower would reboot and repeat this cycle over and
over. I used the f2 key after dell logo loaded and error
message was keyboard error ...I tryed reboot with no key
board and with a different keyboard with the same results
I used the f8 key and tryed just booting with hard drive
only enabled same thing so I used cdr\w & xp cd to try to
reload xp. prior to this event I was able to load all 3
programs mentioned before in about 15 min. no prob now
the program has tryed to load 3 times in 12 hours failing
on different files and repairing them and restarting the
load process ( 1 load attempt takes about 4 hours now )
but still has not made it all the way thru ( close each
time , but no cigar ) when the program starts the loading
process it says i have 3258mb.....?? this is a 30 gig hard
drive . is this a partition prob or what ?? software
prob or hardware somebody save me from the horrow..pent
4... 256mb sdram

This is a point I have reiterated time and again on here, don't upgrade
O/s's always back up important data first and the load from scratch using
the start up disks and take it from there.
