Trying to install windows, it won't acept my product key

I had some spywhere and at some point when I was trying to fix my computer,
an error was created whee if I ever typed a letter on the keyboard I would
get a memory reference error. I then booted my computer with the install cd,
and was hoping I could do a repair install. The option was not there, so I
decided to do just insall again. I am not at the spot where I need to enter
my product key and windows will not accept it. This copy is a legal copy I
bought from the store and it still will not work. I also can not try to
install windows fresh again, no matter which hard disk I have connected it
always goes to instal windows screen (the one where it asks for the product
key). I wonder if being able to star fresh would help.

And when ever I try to access my BIOS settings it asks for a password which
I never set. The motherboard manufacturer (ASUS) has nothing on it and the
last time I asked for support from them I never got it.

What can I do?

I reset the CMOS settings manualy, and now I got it to install. Some error
must have happend during instal earlier.

You need to examine the Product Key very carefully. It's awfully
easy to mistake a "B" for an "8," a "G" for a "6," an "S" for a "5," or
a "Q" for a "0" or "O." Fortunately, Microsoft had the good sense to
leave the "1's," "I's," "O's," and "0's" out of the equation. Also, be
sure that your <CapsLock> is _off_ while entering the Product Key --
this isn't supposed to make a difference, but I've seen it do so, on
rare occasions.

Ask whoever set the BIOS password what it is. Or follow the
instructions in the computer's manual for clearing it.
