Trying to install software getting error with XP

I just reimages the computer. Installed new hard drive and XP from cd-rom
but if I try to install a number of software packages I get the following
error

The decompressin of %s failed. There may not be enought free disk space
available in the TEMP directory

Hi Johnathan,

Common installation problems are usually cured by restarting the machine,
then....

1) Delete the contents of the temp folders, there may be a file in there
interfering with the setup routine of the installer. Get both:

C:\Windows\temp
C:\Documents and Settings\<username>\local settings\temp

2) Turn off all other running programs, especially your antivirus software.
Use ctrl+shift+escape, if necessary, to "end task" on everything.

Hi,

Is all that free space on the volume that houses the %temp% folders? Check
your environmental variable to make sure you are clearing the right %temp%
folders. Control panel/system/advanced/environmental variables, you should
see them indicated in the system variables.
