Trying to get listed on Google

Hello,

Would I be wasting my time in thinking of adding my website to "google"
and some of the other main search engines. With millions of websites out
there, and and tens of thousands in my category and sub category, isn't it a
waste of time to think that my website would appear in the first few searches
of some top engines? Are there other ways to promote your website with
better or similar results?

Thankyou, Susu

Not at all.
Submit it to Google.
Also submit it to the open directory project at www.dmoz.org.
If they pick it up, all major search engines will pick it up.
Be patient though, dmoz takes awhile.

Well, like you say, if there are a large number of similar sites , then to
expect to pop out on top of the searches would be dreaming. But if you *don't*
register your url anywhere, it will only be worse.

As for other methods, well getting picked up by the Associated Press and
published nationally like the lady who made the toyswap site just did works
great,
