Getting my Site on Google Search Engine

Guest

This is my first site that I have published and I've read lots of stuff about
the time and difficulties of getting your sites picked up by ggogle and other
search engines. I have logged my URL with google and verified the site by
adding the meta tag they supplied but I haven't yet added a site map. My
worry is that the site is not even being indexed and iff I do a site search
ie "site:www.*****" google still doesn't find it. Can anyone help me please?
Thanks

It takes time, just hang in there Google will find you - takes weeks
sometimes longer.

Hi Debbie,
There's no difficulties getting into google if you approach it correctly, it
shouldn't take longer than a few days. Best way is to link to it from
another site, do you have another site(s) you could link to it from? Or
maybe ask freidns/colleagues to put up a link to you on their sites. Failing
that get your sitemap up - Google will usually download and start following
links on a sitemap within a day or two, although it may take a bit longer to
get in the index. This is assuming your site is optimised for the search
engines - ie it's clear what the site is about, each page is clearly
targetted to key words(s) the pages are all linked together etc. If not
start by doing that before you think about trying to get into google.

Cheers,
Jon

To increae the links to my site I always reference it when posting to
a forum. It also helps to ensure that you have correct page titles
and text for all your pictures. Although some people say it doesn't
help, I also add meta tags to the pages.

Hi thanks to both for replying. I think I need to wait a bit as you say. I do
have a link to another site from mine and I am waiting for that same site to
link to mine so I guess that will help. I'll try a site map in a few weeks if
it's still not picked up. I think the site is clearly targetted but as it's
my first attempt it may not be great. Please feel free to take a look at it
and pass back any comments that you might have regarding the links key words
etc. The site is www.njbfitness.co.uk.

Thanks again
Debbie

Hi,

I took a look at your site. Is the name of the business 'NJB Business'? If
so, I would recommend adding it the the page titles. Although I've read that
search engines don't look much at keywords, I still used them in my site.
Just made sure the keywords I used were indeed a part of my page contents.
Also, register with as many search engines and other related business sites
that you can. All of the links from outside pages really helps! It took
about a month for my site to show up in the search engines (and another 2
months before I had a Google page rank).

Good luck!

Thanks, yes I'll add that to the page titles and I now understand more about
keywords so I'll add some others too. Do you know if google has any specific
requirements about your home page. Does it mind if its called index or
default and does it mnd what the home page title is?

Thanks for your help

Hi Debbie,

I haven't mastered the science of what Google wants either. For example, my
site, http://www.firstdivisioninc.com, shows up #8 and #7 in Yahoo & MSN,
respectively when I search for: general contractor northern virginia.
However, I can only find it using Google if I type in 'First Division Inc.'
My home page file is index.htm - but Google isn't caching any of my content
or keywords - stops after First Division which are the first two words on my
page. So if you have any success with this - please do share!

search on Nick Beavan Fitness, if I search on Personal Trainer it doesn't

Personal Trainer is a very generic term used by countless web sites.
