trying to combine partition

One of my hard drives somehow ended up with a second partition, so the
D drive also has and E drive taking up space. There was nothing on it
so I would like to combine it with the D drive so it's all one space.
I've tried disk management and got it to be unallocated, but it's still
a separate 2.73 GB. There doesn't seem to be an obvious way to do this.
Is this something windows can do or would I have to get a new program
like partition magic or something?

Try booting to xp cd,recovery,press enter key for password,then type:DiskPart
In DiskPart delete all partitions in the drive,create one,then press Esc key,
then type:FORMAT D: /FS:ntfs D: being the new volume,once its thru type:
EXIT Let xp start up,remove cd.

Andrew,
You are a menace, tell them they will lose all information on the hard drive
if they follow your advice. He said the E partition was empty but the D
drive probably wasn't.

You need to look at a tird party utility like Partition Magic. XP will not
let merge partitions.
