p/p what i am trying to do is to get a icon on desktop which will bring
up a program of my choice for example (printer preferences) is this
feasible and would there be a limit to the number of icons I could use
for this purpose. heres hoping thanks.

Rightclick the desktop, then NEW, then Shortcut, in the command line, put in the path and filename of the program, click Next, name
the shortcut, and click Finish.

Hi Jimmy,

To place a shortcut for Printers and Fax's on the desktop go to
Control Panel and right click on the Printers and Fax's icon and
select create shortcut. You will be asked if you want a shortcut on
the desktop. Answer yes.

It not a good idea to place to many icons on the desktop because when
it gets full the desktop will not scroll as a folder will. It would be
better to place them in a folder on the desktop if that's where you
want them to be.
