Hi all,

I'm trying to allow our bookkeeper to have remote access to my computer but
for some reason she gets an error message. Can't see my computer. I'm
wondering if this has anything to do with the fact that the network
connection on my system is firewall enabled? If so, how do you get around
this?

Thanks

If your network connection is a router, you must have port 3389 forwarded to
your computer IP address.

Your firewall has to have port 3389 open to allow the connection.

And how do I find out?

THanks

Yes, I would imagine that your firewall is part of the problem. It could
also be that you are not directly connected to the internet (which is a
good thing) and are behind a router.

What you have to ask yourself is: If I let the book-keeper have access
to my computer from the internet, since it means that EVERYONE IN THE
WORLD ALSO WILL HAVE ACCESS, do I really want to do this in this manner?

What you need to do is setup a VPN connection that the book-keeper can
connect to, using a strong user name and password, where the data is
encrypted, and then only start the VPN service when the book-keeper
needs access.

You should seek professional assistance in doing this, this is not
something you want to mess-up and expose your books to the internet.
