Try loggin in but logs off

I just ran ad-aware and spybot cleaner. I followed up with updating my
Norton System Works definitions. I rebooted as directed. Now, when
trying logon with any user, the personal settings are loaded, the splash
screen is displayed, then the system automatically runs logoff.

I have rebooted several times hoping something will be reset but that
hasn't worked either.

I have XP Professional. I don't believe SP2 is installed unless one of
my daughters did it without telling me.

The system was running fine (slow) prior to doing this.

Any advice is appreciated.
