Trust relationship between Win 2000 Domains

I have two windows 2000 adnavced server installed on
different sites running a domain controller at each site.

I have A VPN link between the sites using Broadband and
everything between the sites work, i mean
database,printing, pinging machines across the sites
works, but when i try setting a trust relationship
between the the two domains, it says it was unable to
find the domain controller.

How do you add a domain controller in DNS ??

Are the two DNS zones (for the respective Domains) searchable
from a common root OR do you have a secondary for the opposite
zone on each DNS system for the other domain?

The two domain controllers much find each other -- DNS is the
normal method in Win2000 so how will they search (recursively
from the top down OR by holding both domains)?

THE TWO DNS SERVER ARE INSTALLED INDEPENDENTLY AND DO NOT
REFER TO ONE ANOTHER IN ANY FORM. NO REPLICATION OR
SECONDARY SERVER SETUP'S.

I SUSPECT THE MACHINES ARE UNABLE TO RESOLVE THE DOMAIN
CONTROLLERS ADDRESS.

CAN YOU HELP ???
