True Type Fonts that work under win98 do not work under winXPpro

This is a repost of my earlier message in the week.

Let me see if I can explain better.

To back up my collection of fonts before upgrading my computer to
XPpro..(reformatted and installed fresh) I copied all my fonts to a CD.

You can view every font with the font viewer even straight off the cd from a
windows 98 computer.
But now that my machine is windows XP many (as much as a third of them) come
up with the following error.
"The requested file is not a valid font file"

Now I know the files are vaid.

How can I get windows XP to recognize them?

Thanks for any help you can lend.

First, did you have Adobe Type Manager installed in Win98 or any other
font creation or management program? If the font files are *.TTF,
and are valid, they should install in XP. What type of fonts are you
trying to install?

Hello again Patrick...

You still haven't answered the question of how you installed the fonts. Not
all fonts art TT fonts. If you haven't yet tried to install those fonts,
maybe an install will solve the problem. The only other answer I have is the
possibillity of the files corrupting during the burn process.

Hi Luther
I do not install my full collection of fonts. I have about 14 thousand of
them.
regardless of where the font is located on the machine you should be able to
open the font in the operating system's built-in font viewer.
Someone was able to repair a single font for me and that was accomplished by
opening the font in a program called "Font Lab" and recompiling the font and
saving it.

But to do this for several thousand font is ridiculous.
