True Image 11 back up C: Restore to D: then boot to D:

I want to back up my installation on C: and restore it on D: then install
Vista on C: and dual boot. I know how to back up and restore but I can't
figure out how to boot to D:.

Try putting the new hd as slave to C: on same IDE cable,format D: in xp,once
thru,go to run,type:XCOPY C:\*.* D:\ /c/h/e/k/r Agree to all in the DOS
window,once its thru,C: is now also on D: & is bootable...Also,D: being the
slave,but if asigned diffrent letter,then use that later instead..As for
dual boot,
you should get a selection on boot up,once youre old hd is formatted and
vista
installed....

figure out how to boot to D:.

1. Create the True Image bootable CD from within TI.
2. Attach an external hard drive (formatted NTFS) via USB.
3. Use TI and create an image of your system and store that image on the
external hard drive.
4. Shut down/unplug the computer and have *only* the hard drive which will
hold XP connected internally (formerly D. If it is an IDE drive, set it
as Master. Attach the external hard drive and boot with the TI bootable CD.
Restore the image to this drive.
5. Boot into XP.
6. Shut down/unplug the computer and connect the second hard drive which
will hold Vista. If it is IDE set it as Slave. You now have both hard
drives in the system. Boot with the Vista DVD and install it. Vista will
see XP and put an entry in its boot manager.

This will not result in exactly what you wanted; i.e., Vista on the Master
but it doesn't matter which drive Vista is on as far as Vista is concerned.

why not just boot the Vista dvd from the running system and direct the install of Vista to the "D" drive.
this will allow vista to create the multi-boot setup.
