I can't get past the login screen for my ISP. They
indicate there should be no problems. I've had
them change the password to be sure we are on the
same page, but nothing doing.

I previously logged in using IExplorer on an earlier
system. Now with new hardware, and a re-install of
W2K, I can't get to my FTP site at my ISP.

What steps can I take to troublshoot this problem?

What services need to be running?

You shouldn't need any special services running for this. I take it you're
not trying this with an FTP client? And you're using IE to access it?

Open IE, tools, options, advanced tab, what ever the "passive" is set for
try the other setting. So if it's ticked then untick it, and the reverse...

Passive or PASV is there to enable passive file transfer with firewalls.
It's probably your firewall (or lack there-of) that's making the errors.
Another thing to try if this doesn't work is an FTP client. You should find
a number of them at www.snapfiles.com for free if you'd like though you
probably have a half dozen CDs with various FTP clients on them kicking
around if you're anything like me and always getting CDs sent to them. For
that matter the CD that my ISP sent (per request, who can turn down a free
CD?) has two different ones on it.

OK, thanks for responding.

I tried ticking the option you indicated with no change
in the results. I'll try an actual FTP client next....
