Hi,

Uninstall the Norton software, then use System Restore to go back to a point
in time before you installed it - does this resolve the problem? If so, then
return the Norton software to where you bought it and use something -
anything else.

Rick,

As you are well aware of, there are literally millions of people using
Norton programs without any problem what-so-ever. Just as there are over a
million people who have installed XP-SP2 and have "no" problems.

Condemning software (any software) because there are computer configuration
problems (or because the computer owner "modified" a perfectly good install)
is NOT helping anyone at all.

The general consensus here is to "tough it out" in your quest to get SP2 to
work properly. The consensus is to clean up your system BEFORE you install
SP2. Why not give similar advice regarding other programs, say Norton
products?

I have been using a version of Norton Antivirus or Norton
Utilities/SystemWorks since about 1994. The only problem I ever saw was when
Symantec issued a defective signature update. A newer update was released
the very same day that solved the problem!

On the other hand, I have personally had numerous issues with McAfee
products. That was just me and my particular computer in use at the time.
But, based upon my own experiences with McAfee, I would NEVER tell people to
return the product as it is no good. There are millions of people using it
without any consequence!

Have a happy New Year everyone (-:

Hi COB,

It's no secret that I am no fan of Symantec software. That said, the easiest
solution for this user is to do precisely what I have said. I've worked on
many systems that run Norton's just fine, and I never say one word about it.
I use it at work, runs great there as well. But, the fact simply is that
this particular user ran into immediate issues upon installing it, and the
easiest way to avoid said issue is to remove the offending software.
