trouble writing files to external drive

I'm having trouble copying files using explorer from my internal hard
drive to an external drive. I'm running Windows XP(version 5.1 with
SP 2) on a Dell desktop computer. The external drive is a Western
Digital Passport drive with 150GB. The drive is recognised and has
been formatted NTFS. When I copy files I keep getting "delayed write
failures" and then eventually I get a "drive can not find sector"
error and the copy ends. Some of the files are copied correctly. I'm
able to access the files that are copied. I've had this issue since I
first installed the WD drive. The drive has been reformatted a couple
of times. I've run chkdsk and WD diagnostics and the drive looks OK.
When I first started having problems, I reformatted the disk and then
started getting cable errors. Since then I have replaced the cable
with a new one from WD. I've also applied a hotfix from Microsoft -
KB Article Number(s): 908673. I bought the harddrive to use for
backing up files, mainly JPG files.

Does anyone have any ideas?

Hi:

I would try to use the HD in another computer or computers, and see if I
have the same error. I wold do the same copy files of a similar size than
the ones you are having problems. If it works fine, I would say that that
maybe it is a problem with the USB interface. Let us know how it goes.

I had a similar problem when I first got my external drive and soon
found out if I turn my printer off temporarily the drive works as it
should. It is apparently a power problem with usb.
