USB External Disk Drive Problem

I have an issue with my USB external disk drives. I'm running Windows XP SP
3 for starters. I have two external disk drives attached to my computer (one
WD 250GB and one WD 500GB). The problem occurs when I do a backup to the
500GB external drive. The back up gets to around the 70% complete mark and
then stops with a I/O device error. This the point where the verify pass
should start. When I try the same backup to the 250GB drive, the backup
completes successfully without any problems. I've tested the 500GB drive,
and there is nothing wrong with it. I'm using Norton Save and Restore 2.0
for the backup jobs. When I was using version 1.0 of this software, I didn't
have any problems backing up to either external drive. Version 2.0 of S&R is
for XP and Vista. This is a weird issue. Does anyone have a solution to fix
this? Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

/Mike

Is the drive formatted NTFS?

Yes; The 500GB USB external drive is formatted NTFS.

So:
1. Version 2 of your preferred software is for XP and Vista
i.e. NTFS drives.
2. You use v.1, presumably for FAT32 drives as well as NTFS
(or perhaps not for NTFS at all) and
3. You find this software works OK on a 250 Gb drive (NTFS)
but not on a 500 Gb drive (NTFS.)

This seems normal. You may find v.2 fits your purposes better.
