Trouble with CD-based program

J

Jeff Needle

I use a program called GospeLink that accesses data from my CD drive
(WinXP). When I try to run it, I get an annoying box that runs Windows
Installer for Word 2000! I have to cancel, cancel, cancel, until I
finally get the GospeLink program.

There must be a freeware program out there that will clear this up -
something to clear out the Windows Installer area, if this is indeed the
problem.

Any ideas? Thanks.

Ironically, I have been trying to get Word 2000 to work as the
external editor for Xnews, and have the exact same problem.

I found this link which suggests this could be the same cause for me
and perhaps you, and have removed the registry keys as suggested,
but have yet to reboot tonight to try it.

HTH, and I'll post again to confirm if I've have any luck myself.

NB., don't forget to backup your registry / those keys first before
removing the entries. ;-)

Rt\click on the GospeLink.exe and click properties. Does it take you to
the correct program ?.

Hmmm, I'll wait and see if it works for you, sounds like such a
different problem for me.

Okay, I've solved my problem.

Microsoft has a small utility called Windows Installer Clean Up. You
can google it and find it quite easily. I removed the installation file
for Word, and now everything is fine. Word still runs fine, and now
Gospelink works fine, too. I don't know if this will work for everyone.

Just thought I'd report my success.

Glad to hear that.

My own registry removal has fixed my issue too, with no apparent
side-effects, if anyone wants to try that too.

Regards.
