Trouble uninstalling adaptec udf reader

After upgrading from windows me to xphome my hp cdiwriter
plus will not work. Hp has directed me to uninstall
adaptec direct cd reader and adapted udf reader and
reinstall some of there software but it will not install
because I'm unable to fully uninstall the before
mentioned software. Any Ideas?

You should have uninstalled them before upgrading, now you are probably
screwed, and will have to do a clean install of XP to fix it. Back up
everything you want to keep before screwing up things even more.
