Trouble receiving mail

Hi! I have been using Windows Mail (Vista Home) for the past 5 or 6
months.And for the past month I am struggling with emails. Initally I couldnt
send or receive emails. i followed your advice...uninstalled symantec
antivirus,, installed avast anti-virus, deleted my email account, created a
new one, etc BUT IT ISN'T WORKING!! Now i can send emails but still cannot
receive!!

My error message...
The connection to the server has failed. Subject 'HI', Account:
'pop.auv.co.za', Server: 'smtp.auv.co.za', Protocol: SMTP, Port: 25,
Secure(SSL): No, Socket Error: 10060, Error Number: 0x800CCC0E

PLEASE HELP URGENTLY!!!!!
 
Ooops...i actually wanted to say I can now receive but NOT SEND emails!

Email scanning should be turned off in any anti-virus. Also exclude EML
files from the scan. It provides no
protection not provided by the regular resident protection.
Besides that, McAfee and Norton are not compatible with Windows Mail and
Outlook Express and should be uninstalled.
 
Auv.co.za is not an ISP, it is a vanity domain. As such, you
are probably running into the 'port 25 block' issue. Who is
your ISP? You should simply substitute your ISP's
SMTP server for smtp.auv.co.za in the account settings.

Check your setup in tools,properties.You have a problem there.
 
Thanks Garry!! It worked!! I know a bit about computers but obviously not all
the technical things!!
