Windows Vista Trouble opening .XLS attachments in Vista

I have Vista and am totally unable to open any .XLS files from email attachment ......message says 'Works was unable to open the project you selected. The file may be corrupted'.
Does this mean that there is an incompatability between Vista and other previous Windows platforms? Any ideas anyone? thanx

It is nothing to do with Vista ...


.XLS is an Excel spreadsheet document & Works can't open it ... Microsoft Works uses wks, wps, wdb file extensions ... ;)

Either get the source of the document to be saved as the correct format, or, download this Excel Viewer from MS
