Hi. . .

I have two XP home computers setup on a router with share files and the
ability to use the internet through a Linksys router, and we decided to add a
3rd computer also running XP home up to the router to be able to share files
and use the internet.

I have been able to connect the 3rd and get internet access, but am not able
map drives to share files between the two older computers with the new one.

Anyone have any ideas. . . I know you do. . .please help. . . thanks. . .

This problem comes up here frequently, and it can have many possible causes.
One of the most common would be a misconfigured or overlooked personal firewall,
or other security component. There are several other possibilities too, and any
might be the cause of your problem. Read this article with an open mind.

For more direct help, provide "browstat status" and "ipconfig /all" from each
computer, so we can diagnose the problem. Read this article, and linked
articles, and follow instructions precisely (download browstat!):

Hi Jerry,

Yes, the folders are shared on all three computers. What I don't understand
is why I am not able to see them on the new computer and vice versa. I
thought I might need to map them. What do you think?

Thanks for responding. Alison

What is the computer name of the 3'rd computer?
What is the IP Address of the 3'rd computer?
Can you ping the 3'rd computer from one of the original 2 computers?
What happens if you try accessing the 3'rd computer from one of the
original 2 computers using Universal Naming Convention?:
Start > Run > \\computername
If the 3'rd computer has a third-party Firewall installed, it may not be
configured properly to allow file sharing.

Hi RWS,

I have been able to connect them using the XP Home tool for Networking.
Thank you.
