Trouble installing Security Update for Win XP (KB828741)

I've done the "Windows Update" thing numerous times, with
successful downloads and installs.

I've now attempted to install the above Security Update
several times, and get the following error message:

No Updates Were Installed

The following items failed to install. To try installing
them again, click Review and install updates, and then
click Install Now again.

Any ideas as to how to get this to install?]

Download the update from here and then manually install it, see if that works.

I tried the manual download and install. It seemed to
download file, but produced the following error message
on the install: "Extraction Fialed. File is corrupt."
I experienced the same results doing either an "open" or
a save to my hard disk, and then double-clicking on the
saved file. This is VERY strange -- I've NEVER
experienced anything like this with windows updates in
the past.

I would see if there's anything on your system causing this problem, perhaps
spyware/malware/virus. Then try the WU site again. If your system is clean and
you're still having problems, perhaps the WU NG maybe able to assist, but you'll
need to state your OS, problem and what you're done so far. I've included some
links for spyware programs and also online scan for viruses. I use Ad-Aware as
well as Spybot.
