Trouble installing peripherals

Hi,
If anyone can help I would be very, very appreciative.

When I try to install printer software (Epson Stylus c62) i get the
following error message:

16 bit Windows subsystem
C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\AUTOEXEC.NT. The system file is not suitable for running
MS-DOS and Microsoft Windows applications. Choose 'close' to terminate the
application.

I am running windows XP professional
