Trouble downloading pictures to site

I would like to add this observation to my previous post, I reinstalled the
offending pictures and previewed it in the browser and the redone pictures
showed up fine. THen I published it to the web and none of the pictures show.
They all say "This page cannot be found. I found the same problem on one
other page in the web site. All the other pages seem to work fine. Any ideas?

Post the URL to your website so we can see the problem.

You still have links with spaces and invalid characters in them:.

Just changing the file names doesn't help if you don't fix the directory
names, too. For example:

http://cid.naples.net/My Pictures/Scrapbook Layouts/Johnny's Baby book/It's_a_BoyL.jpg

Do you have a directory on your web site called:
/My Pictures/Scrapbook layouts/Johnny's Baby book/

If so, the directory names should be:
/my-pictures/scrapbook-layouts/johnnys-baby-book/
etc. - All lower case, no spaces in directory names and no special
characters (i.e. "johnnys" not "Johnny's") Either underscores or dashes
can be used in place of spaces. I prefer dashes, since underscores can
be "lost" in the underlining which usually identifies links.

I'd also reduce the directory name lengths, too, such as
/images/layouts/johnny-baby/

and change the file name to "its-a-boyl.jpg (all lower case)

Lower case ensures that there is no problem if the site is on a
Unix/Linux server vs. a Windows based server.

Thanks for your suggestions. Where should I make the corrections? Do I do it
in "My Pictures" or in "my webs" on my hard drive or in Front page itself?
When I import the pictures to FrontPage, does it import them from "My
Pictures" where I store all my graphic images or does it go to "my webs"
where all the website information is stored?

With your local FP web open, click on the images folder, then, go to File |
Import, click on "Add File" button, go to the folder on your hard drive
where the pictures are stored, select the ones you want, and click Open.

Then, click "Add File" button, which will import the pictures into the
images folder. Then, click "Okay".

Then, go to your page, and Insert | Picture, and select the pictures from
your images folder in your web, to insert them on a page. Then save. Then
publish your web.

Look at the help files for import.

You said "Just changing the file names doesn't help if you don't fix the
directory
| > names, too." Where do I go to get to this directory? I understand what
to do about the renaming of the files. I did it in all the files in this
folder I am working with. Then I imported the files to FP. When I redid the
thumbnails only about half worked. The pages that didn't work had the long
URL in the address bar - with 20% between many of the words. If I knew where
to go to fix the directory I think the problem could be solved. Thanks for
your patience and help.

You would have to rename the files from within FP, so that FP would then update all references

OK, I went to the folders view in FP, checked that all the file names are
correct - no spaces, deleted the ones that were duplicates with the spaces,
so now each file has one correctly written file name. I published it and
still am getting the "This page cannot be displayed" page. What now?

thumbnails only about half worked. The pages that didn't work had the long
URL in the address bar - with 20% between many of the words. If I knew where
to go to fix the directory I think the problem could be solved. Thanks for
your patience and help.

Right off, you still have spaces in your folder and file names (%20 = space), rename while in FP to
eliminate the space, and make everything lowercase.

Make sure that you have open folder as a web / site via File Menu | Open Web / Site in FP first!

OK, I went to the folders view in FP, checked that all the file names are
correct - no spaces, deleted the ones that were duplicates with the spaces,
so now each file has one correctly written file name. I published it and
still am getting the "This page cannot be displayed" page. What now?
Hannah

:

You would have to rename the files from within FP, so that FP would then update all references

You said "Just changing the file names doesn't help if you don't fix the
directory

to do about the renaming of the files. I did it in all the files in this
folder I am working with. Then I imported the files to FP. When I redid the
thumbnails only about half worked. The pages that didn't work had the long
URL in the address bar - with 20% between many of the words. If I knew where

Your URL shows that there are still many, many spaces in your files and the
image. And, the files are pointing to your hard drive.
You have not followed the instructions/advice I gave you earlier.
