Trouble displaying movie files in PowerPoint

When trying to display an .mpg movie file in a PowerPoint presentation, the
screen turns white until the slide is over only on some machines. Some PC's
display the movie file just fine. To try and compare "apples to apples" I
used PowerPoint Viewer 2003 on each machine.

Any thoughts.

Thanks,
E.E.

MPEG film decoding is very time-cosuming, so maybe you need check your
configurations of each of your machines to find other differences for
"apples to apples".
Another hint is that differenct mpeg decoders have differnent
performance too. So check if there is something to be improved in this
way.

Hope this can help!

Best regards,
KPP

I forgot to mention that the movie clip plays OK in Windows Media player on
each machine, just not from within PowerPoint - plus I tried an .avi file and
got the same results. I don't think it's a resource problem, just some sort
of configuration or incompatibility problem with P.P.

Thanks,
E.E.

Probably the link has broken. To resolve this,
Create a folder.
Move the ppt and movie to the folder.
Then delete and re-insert the movie.
Now, move the folder to other computers and see if it works.
If it doesn't, the path might be buried too long, if so, move the folder to
C:\.

Test the video in MCI Media Player (those computers that doesn't run).
To do so click Start – Run, and in the command line type "mplayer.exe" (or
"mplay32.exe" for Win2000 or XP) and click OK.
Run the video from there. Does it work? If it doesn't work in the MCI
player, it won't work in PPT either.

Yep. Runs smooth as silk using mplay32.exe.
I am running WinXP-SP2, MS Media Player 10, and DirectX9c.
I also checked out the web-links for troubleshooting. Still no go.

Any other ideas?
Thanks,

Check the path length. Path plus file name should not have more than 128
characters, avoid spaces in file name. Move presentation and movie to
C:\Test, re-insert movie. Does it play there?

Ute,
It was the path length causing the problem.

Thanks for everyone's response.
