This problem has really stumped me; I have no idea what
could be wrong. Recently I built a new PC and put WinXP
Home on it, my first personal experience with XP. I have
a home network going off of a broadband cable line with a
Linksys BEFSR41 router. It contains a number of PCs, both
connected through a WAP, and also wired right into the
router. The other one plugged directly into the router is
on Win98; the two connected through the WAP are a 2000 and
an HP with XP (that ones only been around a few days).
Now, whenever the new PC that I put XP Home on is
connected to the router, it wreaks havoc for every other
PC on the network, wired or wireless. Every PC can access
the internet, but the best way to get the symptoms across
is that AOL Instant Messenger will get bumped very
frequently, maybe 1-5 times every ten minutes. This
instability has caused immense headaches for the other PC
users on this network. If I disconnect my PC from the
network, everything is magically fine again and there are
no problems. I've tried all sorts of stuff between the
firewalls of the router and of XP, and actually, about a
week ago I screwed with settings and ideas I had
brainstorming for about an hour, but it's hopeless.
Somehow my PC with XP is conflicting with some other
fuction of the network, but what?!!
Any help is greatly appreciated...
