trouble accessing some web pages

I'm not sure if this is the right NG to ask, but I'm not sure where to ask.
I am running Win XP SP2 and IE6, through a Linksys 8 port router, cable
high-speed internet, four computers, three of which have F-Secure virus
protection & firewall, other using McAfee virus and Windows firewall . In
the last week or so I have been experiencing difficulty opening more and
more web pages. I first noticed it on http://puzzles.usatoday.com (I
know, not of earth-shattering importance) but now I am having trouble with
other sites. Today I was trying to order something from the Eddie Bauer
site. Same thing happened, it will go only so far and then hang. Here's
the scary part--if I run the cable straight from the cable modem to my
machine, everything opens up just fine, however, that is not a do-able
solution. I have made no changes to my network or any of the machines.
This did not coincide with the installation of SP2, I installed that when it
first became available. I have tried turning off the pop-up blocker on IE,
that doesn't help. I even tried using a different browser (Netscape) still
a no go. Most web pages open fine. I was hoping to do my Christmas
shopping online and I am not keen on the idea of going around my router to
complete a transaction. Anyone have any ideas of what is going on? (This
phenomenon is the same on all four computers)

Install the following:

Free Software - Java Software for the desktop

Macromedia Flash Player

Thank you for your quick response, however, I think the problem was with my
router. I have both Java and Macromedia Flash Player. I took my 8-port
router out of the network and replaced it with my old 4-port and a switch
and now I can access those pages fine. I'm really bummed about the router.
I wonder if it has a warranty.....probably just expired.

I would first try to upgrade the firmware to the latest version.
Also check relevant settings. Does it have anything related to
MTU (Maximum Transmission Unit)?

I will try the upgrade on the router. However, concerning the MTU, I
had never heard that term before, so I Googled it. That sounds like it
is dealt with in the registry of the computer. Since the 8 port router (the
one that isn't working so great) was hooked up to the exact same computer/
network set-up as the 4 port router and switch, I can't see where that would
make any difference--unless there is also a setting in the router. The
8 port router is several years newer than the 4 port--one would think it
would
have been made to handle higher MTU's. (?) Pardon my lack of knowledge,
my knowlege of computers is very basic--if I want a new part or function, I
just figure it out the best I can. I haven't had any formal training. If
there is a
setting for MTU in the router itself, could you tell me where it would be
found?
Thank you for your suggestions and help.

Just upgraded the firmware--it worked like a charm.
Thank you Mr. Michna!!!

Glad I could help to solve the problem. So no MTU problem here.
That was kind of unlikely anyway.
