Tried everything to make it appear.

I still can't get my 80 Gig Maxtor to appear in My Computer, even though
I formatted and partitioned with Maxtor's disk utils.
Running XP Pro on a 2000+ AMD. Also, oddly enough only one of my CD
Drives appears in My computer, the most recently added LG CDRW. Tried
every permutation/combination of Master/slave and IDE channels.
Any suggestions?

TIA

Presumably it does show up on the black bios screen at boot time ?

Maybe you managed to load the bios overlay using maxtor's crap.

What gets listed on the black bios screen at boot time ?
You should have AUTO drive types right thru the drive table
in the bios. That may be your problem, that you dont.

Go right back to basics and test things carefully.

First unplug the new drive and work out why both
CD drives dont show up. It may be that one of the
motherboard IDE channels is disabled or something.

Make sure that the drives do get listed on the black
bios screen at boot time and fix that if they arent.

The wipe the 80GB drive using something like clearhdd from
http://www.samsung.com/Products/HardDiskDrive/utilities/clearhdd.htm
and install the drive using just XP, dont use maxtor's crap.
