OS--- Win XP Home edition
A freind recently downloaded some update or other and since then he has
been unable to get IE and OExpress to load webpages or email.
The machine successfully logs on to the ISP but thats it..
I suspect a virus of some sort but using System Clean (with latest
definitions) in safemode shows nothing but lists a large number of
files which could not be accessed.
The Win System files I can understand but some of the files are doc
files etc and that seems irregular.
The machine will also not run the Help and Support files and seems to
take a long time to shut down

This is what system restore is good for.

1) The machine works fine
2) You install something that mucks it up
3) You restore to the previous condition
