Trend Micro Internet Security 2004

Hi

I have recently got rid of Nortons and am trialling Trend Micro Internet
Security 2004. It seems ok but there is one thing I have noticed. After I
update the definitions it seems to turn off the real time scanner and not
restart it. This is obviously worrying and was wondering if this is normal
or there may be some setting I need to change. I am running Windows XP Pro.
Thanks.

No. It shouldn't "disable" realtime scanning and not restart. But, just
to make sure I understand you, during the definitions update
the various modules being updated shut down. This lasts for approx 5
seconds, or less. If the icon in your task bar comes back with a grayed
out lightning bolt, then, yes, it appears your resident AV is disabled.
Is this what you were describing?

This could also have to do with your trial version. Some trial versions
of software have the update function crippled. I'd check the Trend
web-site to see if this is related to a "trial issue". Otherwise, I'd
guess a driver conflict.

I have the licensed version installed on 2 systems and have not seen
what you describe. I like the product quite a bit, for a number of reasons.

I agree. Mine will appear to shut down when an update is loading but
reappears within 5 or so seconds. You do not lose real time scanning or
firewall service during this action. Unless the icon does not reappear or
it appears grayed out, then I would not worry either.
