Treepad-like program that supports Unicode?

I just bought a 60GB USB2 hard drive and I'm transferring as many of my
programs as I can to it. I use Keynote (www.tranglos.com/free/keynote.html)
somewhat frequently but writes to the Registry. I know Treepad to be popular
but I need something with Unicode support. (Treepad Asia doesn't seem to
work with it at all.) Are there any Treepad-like programs that do support
Unicode (mainly English and Japanese)?

I'd try Keynote also with the USB2, because from my monitored install I see
that it writes in the registry only the uninstall infos in
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Uninstall
so it should work without it.

Thanks for the info. I was getting Registry-write notices because it was set
to automatically enable association with .knt files. Once I disabled that
feature, no more notices. And since most settings are written to an .ini, I
think I've got a portable version of Keynote working! Thanks much.
