My tray icon for defender has suddenly not there. In options I have it ticked
for "always".How do I restore the tray icon so that it appears after a
re-boot.

Have you checked to see if it is simply auto-hiding? Click the little
chevrons at the edge of the notification area to see if it reappears, or
right-click in that area and choose Customize Notification icons to specify
the behavior.

Hello Engel,
Thanks. Should have told you I'm using Vista 64.Windows Defender is not
listed in Installed Programs so I cannot do a repair. The second fix worked,I
made a shortcut of systray.exe & pasted it in the start-up folder.{:-}.
Thanks very much for your quick reply Another Question will putting the
systray.exe in my start-up folder make everything load twice?
Do you know of a way to specify which things load first after the internet
connection as AVG anti virus takes forever to load.Is there anyway to make it
load first or second?
Thanks
Hugh
