I saved a web drawing to the desktop. XP stated
something about active desktop, I clicked "no" and then
whammo, my desktop icon labels were no longer
transparent! (I had the blue background behind the
letters, like I used to have in Win98.)

Microsoft says nothing about how to restore the
transparent look. Any help?

Right-click on your desktop and select:

Properties > Desktop > Customize Desktop > Web (tab)
and uncheck "Lock Desktop Items", click OK and APPLY.

Also, check this setting:

Right-click MY COMPUTER and select:
Properties > Advanced > Performance settings >
Visual Effects, place a check next to "Use Drop Shadows
for Icon Labels on the Desktop", then click "apply".
