transluscent drop down lists

I have been poking my pc with a stick and i have somehow
managed to elect for my drop down lists to be
transluscent. (i think it was while i was in something to
do with the administration and security tools but i could
be wrong)?????
what i want to know is does anybody know how i can change
it back. i seem to remember checking a tick box somewhere
to allow me to do this, however i cant remember where.

somebody help , its doing my head in.

if you think you have any idea what i may have done and
how to fix it i would appreciate if you could email me
direct because it is such a pain getting to this group and
finding replies, especially after a week

It's not a Windows setting. Maybe something from a display driver or
display related software (Hydravision, Windows Blinds, etc).
