Transition Help

I just tried using WMM today. I put a 15 sec. clip (.avi) in it just to
test, and see what it would do. However, I could not get the transitions to
work. I would always get the little black circle with a line through it
every time I tried to drag a transition down. Do you need more that one
clip, and lengths of longer than 15 sec. for it to work? If not, what am I
missing on doing. I use Pinnacle Studio all the time which is much more
than WMM, but I can't seem to get anywhere with this one.

If you are trying to use a transition with only one clip, it will not work.
Try one of then following:

The easiest way to add a transition is to simply import another video and
add it to the timeline. Then you can add the transition between the two
clips. However, if you want a transition to occure within the 15 second clip
you already have (without having to add another clip), follow the steps below.

Split your 15 second clip into two. To do this, play the clip in MM and
pause it where you want to split it (where you want the transition to
occure). Then, on the bottom right side of the media player, there are two
round buttons. The first one will split the video for you. Once you click
that button, you will see that you now have "two" videos, but really the
second video just continues on where the first one stops. Now add your
transition between these two shorter clips!

Thanks, that is exactly the info. I needed. I was going to try WMM instead
of my Studio for very short clips. Now I'm on my way ( I hope). Thanks
again.

I forgot to add one more piece of info in regards to splitting the 15 second
clip...make sure that each side of the split (actually the second half of the
split is more important in this) is longer than the transitional effect used.
You can test transitional effects by clicking on "View video transitions"
under the "2. Edit Movie" menu. But if you split a 15 second video into two
right in the middle, that would give you just over 7 seconds for each
clip...plenty long enough for any transitional effect. Good luck and have
fun!
