Fade transition causes WMM to stall/freeze

When I adding transitions between clips (in VISTA), sometimes wmm will not
allow play back when I use the "Fade" Transition. Once I remove it everything
is fine. I end up using "fade out to black" on the first clip and "fade in
from black" on the second clip as Effects instead. Can someone point me in
the right direction?

I am embarassed to say - I followed your link and was not able to find what
'type' of file I am using. I imported video using wmm from my sony dcr-trv280
camera using a firewire. Does this help?

The link just tells you which files are compatible.

If you used firewire witha digital cam you will have either wmv or dv.avi
files.

Have you added any music or photos to the timeline?

Mr. Graham,
Thanks for your reply. The problem occurs without the addition of
music/photos. I am beginning to wonder if this is a result of my card or lack
of RAM (I have 1 gig). I was playing around and noticed that I could make
effect changes without problem but only a few transition changes before wmm
stopped functioning. WMM would become functional again after I removed the
last transition that caused wmm to stall.

I am using Vista
and I looked in the control panel: display adapters: Intel(R) G965 Express
Chipset Family. After finding this I selected the adapter and asked the
system to 'update' the driver and it said it was already up to date. Am I to
assume that this is 'mostly' right?

Graham I found these at

http://desilucy.com/index.php?lvl=2Vista

No resolution at this time, however, one forum member posted this possible
workaround:
"...Put all of your other edits in first (music, title cards, text, etc.),
see how it all looks in the preview and then as your LAST STEP, add in the
transitions. That's what I plan on doing on my next project as the
transitions will all carry over when you burn the actual movie onto DVD (as I
found out with success when I burned my last project). ..."

Another member posted this:
"...I had been adding audio clips, and some sound files were overlapping.
When I pulled them apart, the preview window worked again."...

While another member posted this:
"...Go to the time line. Right click on a movie file and select
"properties". Then get out of that box by canceling. Bingo. The programme
will preview normally. "...

NO, if you read the page properly you'll find the best way of making sure
you have the right drivers.
