I have a timeline with about 50 pictures in it. I don't want to add a video
transition between each of them (which adds time to the movie) but I want
each picture to fade in and fade out. I can do this for each individual
picture by right clicking on the clip, choosing Fade In, then repeating for
Fade Out. This takes a long time for so many pictures. Isn't there a way to
change the global setting for this effect?

Try this...

Ok....all pics are on the timeline...

Change to Storyboard view...

Go to....Edit / Select All...
(at least one had to be selected first)

With all pics selected...right click
the Effect / Transition you wish to
add and from the menu...choose...
"Add To Storyboard"
