Transition back and forth between two slides for about 10 min

Presentation to a large audience. While they are assembling, I wish to
transition back and forth between the first two slides of the presentation
automatically. When they are assembled, I wish to go directly to slide #3 to
begin the presentation and will use the mouse for the presentation.

I am using Microsoft PowerPoint 2003

Your help will be greatly appreciated. Thank you,

Try this. Split the show into two custom shows - the first two slides as one
show call it loop and all the other slides in the other (main) Do this from
slide show > custom show > new. For slides 1&2 set an auto transition

In slide show > set up show choose show slides > custom show > loop and also
tick loop until esc.

Now add an action button to slides 1 & 2 to hyperlink to custom show > main

Note that the main show will also loop so add an end show button on the last
slide

John, thank you for your quick response. I was able to set up the two custom
shows. The first show (two slides) loop automatically and that part works
beautifully. When I am ready to present the rest of the show, I am not clear
on how to proceed to slide #3 seemlessly. You are right #1 and #2 keep
looping.

Add an action button to slide 2. Slide show > action buttons- choose a button
and click the slide to add it, resize if you want. The default action
appears - change this to hyperlink to > custom show > main show. You can if
you wish copy and paste the button to slide 1 also

Try this as an alternative to the other two suggstions. I prefer it!

Place slides 1 and 2 in a new presentation called Starter.
Set slide tranisitions to automatic (and mouse click, if you wish) and set
to loop.

Place remaining slides in a presentation called Full
On the first slide (your old slide 3) insert a smallish box with no fill and
no lines in a convenient unobtrusive location - I use top left hand corner.
Make sure that it is on top.
Insert a hyperlink associated with this box to Starter (remember to make it
relatve).

That's all.

Now when you set everything up:
- Slide Show on Full
- Mouse click on the hyperlink box
The looping will now begin
When the talk starts
- Press Escape or right click the mouse and Exit.
Now you are in the Full presentation.

Hope this suits you.
I like it as it has the potential to reuse Starter.
And it does not leave Starter running throughout Full, nor does it return to
Starter at the end of Full.
