Transferring User Preferences (on same PC)

Could anyone point me to a process for saving / restoring a Users
preferences when they are forced to become a "new user".

All our users are on XP and have a variety of preferences they have
established whilst using our peer-to-peer network. However, we now
have an SBS server and will need the users to connect to this new
Domain.

The first user to make the new connection lost all their settings and
preferences, plus we had to move all their files from one user area to
another.

Is there a way of avoiding this?

Thanks,
