Transferring Old e-mail to new computer in Outlook Express

D

Dick Sigrist

I have purchased a minitower (98) and have Outlook Express
6 installed. I have set up the mail account and have been
using it for several weeks.

My Laptop is an old one (Win 98) and I would like to move
the old mail, also Outlook Express 6, from the laptop to
my minitower.

I tried to move one of the .dbx folders from my laptop to
the folder where they are stored in the minitower, but
when I brought up Outlook Express it was not there.

I tried to use the Import Messages function in Outlook
Express, but when I identified a folder where I put
the .dbx file, I got an error message that said either
there was no mail there or another application was using
it.

Bottom line: Should I attempt to just move the .dbx files
directly into the mail folder with the other .dbx folders
that are already there or do I try to use the import
function to bring them in?

Ask in an Outlook Express group - this one supports Microsoft Office
Outlook, a completely different program.

You can also find help on this very good website: http://www.tomsterdam.com

the (insert latest virus name here) virus, all mail sent to my personal
account will be deleted without reading.

After searching google.groups.com and finding no answer, Dick Sigrist asked:
