transferring hard drive to newer/faster drive

I have a 20GB HDD in my system right now with windows xp
home...I want to put an 80GB HDD into the computer (I
have it too) and transfer everything from the 20GB to the
new 80GB drive. How do I do this/can I do this without
installing XP all over again along with all my programs?
Can I use the file and setting transfer wizard, provided
I first install XP on the new drive?

I want basically to replace the 20GB with the 80GB
hdd...and I only have one computer with which to do so.

Right now the drives are both in the computer the 80 is
the master and the 20 is the slave and I am booting from
the slave drive.

Help would be GREATLY appreciated.

Thanks in advance...

File transfer saves user data and settings only, not the actual xp o
files. It does a complete save though,to copy disk to disk use xcopy from xp
go to run,type:XCOPY C:\*.* D:\ /c/h/e/k/
D: being the hd letter, the hd must be formated and free of all data. Also,a DO
window opens and starts data transfer, agree to all when it asks.

I want basically to replace the 20GB with the 80GB

Do it by cloning the partition on the old drive to the new.

What I use is BootIT NG, from http://www.BootitNG.com ($35 shareware -
30 day full functional trial)

Download, to its own folder, extract from the zip, run the bootitng to
make a boot floppy.

With the new drive plugged in as slave/secondary, boot the floppy,
Cancel Install, entering maintenance, then click on Partition work.
Highlight your C:,Copy, then on left select the new drive (HD1) and
Paste.

You might then consider a resize up a bit. Or perhaps leave spare
space to make a second partition, using XP itself, once things are up
and running: I regard more than around 20 GB for the partition with the
system as not really being sensible.

Now click on 'View MBR' and in it highlight the entry for this new C
partition and click the 'Set Active' Click 'Write Standard MBR' and
Apply.

Close out, swap the disks to make the new one the one that boots, and
reboot into XP.
