it
thanks in advance

Depending on the software, you may be able to just install the programs off
the original CD and transfer any saved data over. If its licensed, you won't
be able to unless you contact the software company and buy another license
or transfer to your desktop, taking it off of your laptop.

If they are Windows programs, simply copying usually won't work. You have
to reinstall them.

Neither. In general you can *not* move or copy installed programs from
one computer to another. That's because all applications (except for a
very occasional trivial one) have many entries and pointers to them
within Windows--in the registry and elsewhere. The programs without
those entries and pointers are worthless.

You'll have to reinstall the programs on the desktop from the original
media.
